What’s the difference between 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi comes in two flavors: 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and each has its advantages.

  • 2.4GHz travels farther and pushes through walls better. It’s perfect for things like garage cameras or devices at the far end of your home.
  • 5GHz is faster but works best when you're closer to the router. It's ideal for 4K streaming, online gaming, or video calls in the same room.

Tip from Audra: If your smart speaker in the kitchen lags but Netflix in the living room works great, you're likely switching between the two bands and that's normal!
